Istanbul, November 28, 2024 – The MedLit project, aimed at enhancing the health media literacy of oncology patients, concluded successfully with its final international partners' meeting held in Istanbul on Thursday, November 28. The project focuses on promoting access to accurate and reliable health information while raising public awareness about the dangers of misinformation. The innovative tools and training programs developed within the project have had a significant impact in participating countries.

MedLit Project: Safe Access to Health Information

MedLit was designed to address the challenges of misinformation faced by oncology patients in the digital age. The project implemented media literacy training, awareness campaigns, and train-the-trainer programs to equip patients with the skills needed to evaluate online health information confidently. Additionally, tailored guides for healthcare professionals fostered effective collaboration among stakeholders within the health system.

Supported by the European Union’s Erasmus+ KA2 program, the project gained an international dimension through contributions from partners in Turkey, Serbia, and the Czech Republic under the coordination of Germany-based BEFUN. Participant partners included CORBIZ (Turkey), Creative Station (Serbia), and SZVOSZ (Czech Republic). This extensive collaboration achieved significant success both in academic and community-based applications.

Participants discussed the impact of the developed training materials, modules, and digital platforms on improving health literacy among oncology patients. Partners exchanged ideas on the sustainability of project outcomes and developed strategies for maintaining these achievements in the future.

The Istanbul meeting also served as a platform to showcase the project’s outputs and share best practices from the participating countries. Project partners expressed their satisfaction with the international collaboration model established to enhance media literacy in healthcare.

The Future of the Project

Although the MedLit project has officially concluded, its outcomes will continue to be utilized by educational institutions, hospitals, and healthcare professionals.
